Religious Trauma and the Baptist Union

There are some very interesting articles on the web about religious trauma. This can take many forms - when the church isolates and disowns people - when it tries to force people to sign unreasonable agreements following allegations - when it distances itself from people for whom church is their life, when it tells them they are banned from leadership roles and over reacts to protect itself rather than seeing its responsibility to individuals. This is very much intertwined with mental health and now the church can impact on it.
There are many examples which you can elaborate on. The most worrying thing is how the Baptist Union in Didcot seems unaware of their responsibilities towards mental Heath. The time has come to have a Commission in the church, made up of independent members, who can meet with anyone whose mental health has been impacted by the church and hear their stories. It is in listening to these voices that the church can reflect and repent and seek positive ways forward.
